Cycles of the Earth

I’ve been contemplating about this one for quite some time now. There are times when the idea strikes but it doesn’t feel quite the right time to hatch. I took these photos on a lovely day in the south of Malta. Sometimes I just pick up the camera, get to a place, and wander around aimlessly, alone. I find these moments mentally relaxing. When I have no restrictions, I feel free, and the result is usually inspiring and productive, even if I don’t take a single image.

The idea for this work came while I was watching the sea embrace the rocky shore. Although the process is repetitive, it is different every time. It is the nature of earth itself. As time progresses, we enter various cycles, some lasting fractions of a second, others lasting thousands of years. Every time, the cycle repeats itself, but the nature of time and earth are such that the experience is always different, because everything else changes – people, environment, technology, etc…

The Malta Jazz Festival 2009

Seems like lately I’ve been doing quite a few events. It is summer after all, and it is a great way to spend an evening. This time I’ve managed to squeeze myself into the Malta Jazz Festival, which after a few years went back to its original location and more importantly, its original format. Unfortunately I was only able to attend one of the evenings, however here are some photos from the great Cuban band Maracas, who managed to get everyone dancing in the end!

Masters of Dirt (2009)

July 8th, 2009

This series of photographs was taken during the local production of the Masters of Dirt event, which features mainly freestyle motorcross. It is however set up as a very elaborate and entertaining show, featuring, amongst others, pyrotechnics and the ever-popular “fire girls”.

The event was highly interesting, and also a challenge to photograph, due to the sheer speed of the show’s pace.
